This quick and simple recipe is my take on Gentleman’s Relish which keeps for an age in the freezer and doesn’t need long to defrost
It is very versatile, great on toast and even better with the addition of some grilled cheese on top. It also goes well with steak, either placed on top (flashing it under the grill will encourage it to melt) or serve it on the side.
The only limit is your imagination!
Spiced Anchovy Butter
Ingredients
- 125g dried anchovies (drained weight)
- 250g butter, unsalted, diced
- 25ml lemon juice
- 25ml Worcestershire sauce
- 0.5 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
- 0.25 teaspoon of paprika
- 0.25 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
- 0.25 teaspoon of freshly ground pepper
- Pinch of ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Put all ingredients into a blender/food processor and whizz until smooth
- Transfer in to sterilised jars
- Enjoy!
Notes
Instead of cayenne pepper you can use whole chilli peppers if you prefer a bit more heat, which is my preference.
If you don't have jars simply roll into a log in cling film/grease-proof paper and store in the refrigerator or freezer.
